There are many wonderful places to stay and dine and things to do in the Galveston Metro area. This website intends to be the first place you go to when you are looking for the best of what the Galveston area has to offer.

Camping on the beach
Matagorda Bay is about an hour and half outside of Houston, TX. It is the perfect spot for an outdoor weekend. Why? Drive right on the beach, set up camp, great fishing, kite flying, and swimming in the Gulf. For a $6 permit you can take your truck right on the beach - 4 wheel drive is much prefered. Where else can you setup camp and wake up to the waves for so little. For fishing there are lot of boats you can hire - but you can also fish off the piers. As for dining you are limited. We always just pack our own - that is part of the camping fun. But there is a Shell gas station in town that serves a great breakfast. It was the only place open for breakfast on Sunday. While you are waiting there is a great little shop next door to pick up any beach items you forgot. It is small town Texas at its best.
